The Homestudy

The Homestudy is the first step to adopting a child and anyone who is hoping to adopt must have a completed and up to date homestudy.  Most people are intimidated by the homestudy process, however, it should be an educational process rather than a frightening one.  During the homestudy process you should be able to ask and have answered the questions you have regarding the adoption process.

Because of the change in homestudy requirements most states and many agencies will no longer accept a homestudy that has not been completed by a licensed agency; Your Adoptive Family is a fully licensed adoption agency.  It is essential that you check with your adoption agency regarding their specific homestudy requirements before beginning the process.

I have over 20 years of experience writing homestudies in addition to being an adoptive parent and understand what you are experiencing.  I am can help you begin your adoption journey with a homestudy that not only satisfies State and agency requirements but that is also educational and supportive.

If you are considering adopting a child of a race, ethnicity or culture that is different from your own, please go to: www.pactadopt.org and read their resources on trans-racial adoption and watch their video: ” Considering Trans-racial Adoption: 4 questions to ask yourself”. Also visit Angela Tuckers website: www.theadoptedlife.com. It is essential that you fully understand what it means to parent a child of a different race, ethnicity and/or culture before bringing that child into your home and to understand that not all families will be approved to adopt trans-racially.

Your Adoptive Family is collaborating with PACT-an adoption alliance to provide required (WAC 388-147-1725) training webinars for all homestudy families.

Prior to beginning the homestudy process, every homestudy family is required to attend at least one webinar about Open Adoption and every family who is considering trans-racial adoption is required to attend at least two webinars about trans-racial adoption and are strongly encouraged to participate in Pact’s BCAC-Building Communities Across Cultures Program.
