Homestudy
The Homestudy is the first step in the adoption process. Anyone who hopes to adopt must have completed a homestudy. Many states and agencies require adoptive families to have their homestudy completed by a licensed agency.
The homestudy includes but is not limited to the following:
- background checks
- financial statements
- medical statements
- 2 visits, one office visit and one home visit (this is to be determined by the social worker and additional visits may be required)
- letters of reference
- birth certificates
- marriage licenses-if applicable
- Training
Your Adoptive Family is collaborating with PACT-an adoption alliance to provide required (WAC 388-147-1725) training webinars for all homestudy families.
Prior to beginning the homestudy process, every homestudy family is required to attend at least one webinar about Open Adoption and every family who is considering trans-racial adoption is required to attend at least two webinars about trans-racial adoption and are strongly encouraged to participate in Pact’s BCAC-Building Communities Across Cultures Program (www.pactadopt.org).
I also encourage all families who are considering and/or who have already adopted trans-racially to participate in Angela Tucker’s Cultivating and Anti-Racist Support Network for Transracial Adoptees.
